Admissions and Discharges
Our Front Office is conveniently open 24/7 Sunday to Sunday and one of our friendly Customer Service Representatives will be happy to assist you with the admission/discharge process. Admissions to our hospital are made through the referral of your Medical Practitioner or through our Accident & Emergency Department. Medical Practitioners are Independent Consultants and do not act as Agents, Representatives or Officers of West Shore Medical.
The Admission Process
Your doctor/surgeon will provide you with an admission letter which must be presented to our Front Office.
Your doctor or his representative is the only person who may book the Operating Theatre for your procedure. If the reservation is made a few days before the procedure, one of our Customer Service Representatives will contact you for more information to make the admission process faster on your arrival.
Consent Forms must be completed together with your Medical Practitioner before admission. This is to ensure that you are cognizant of the procedure to be undertaken during your admission to our hospital and have given your informed consent to proceed. In your consultations with your Medical Practitioner, we recommend that patients appreciate and understand the following:
- The nature and purpose of a proposed treatment or procedure;
- The risks and benefits of a proposed treatment or procedure;
- The risks and benefits of the alternative treatment or procedure (regardless of their cost or the extent to which the treatment options are covered by health insurance)
Admission Forms must be properly completed. A Customer Service Representative can assist in completion of the form and answer any queries or concerns you may have.
To accelerate the admission process our Admission Forms are available online for your completion before arrival.
West Shore Medical will provide room accommodation from ocean views to an inner private rooms as well as shared accommodation. Patients can select the type of room in which you wish to be accommodated. However, we cannot guarantee the type of room a patient selects as rooms are assigned based on availability.
A deposit is required prior to admission. Medical, CCU and ICU patients are required to pay deposits of prior to admission.

Discount cards (e.g. Medicard) MUST be presented to the Customer Service Representative at the time of admission. Failure to do so will make such discount void.
If the patients stay is covered by an approved insurance provider, he/she will be requested to make a payment to cover any applicable deductions.
The Discharge Process is as follows
The hospital’s discharge time is 12:00 noon.
When a patient is discharged, the patient’s file will be audited and a final invoice prepared.
The patient’s contact person is advised of any outstanding balance to be paid or refund due before the patient is discharged.
Any refunds to credit cards will be processed at the time of discharge, once the card is presented, otherwise a refund cheque will be issued within three (3) working days of discharge.
Before leaving the hospital please ensure you have the following:
Receipts for any payments made
X-rays or CT Scans undertaken during your stay
Prescriptions and instructions from your doctor post op surgery. Our Prescriptions can be filled at out Pharmacy which is conveniently located at our main entrance.
